Detour: Use music to stretch your resource group's thinking!

Resource groups need your inspiration to stretch beyond the familiar.  Music can be a powerful detour to help bring novelty to your idea list.

During the three-day Creative Facilitator Workshop, you used the process to make lots of lists and lots of choices. As you began to use detours, you probably noticed that the ideas became more innovative.

Most people for whom you facilitate will not have experienced that workshop and they will start by offering ideas that are pretty safe and familiar.

That’s where you can deliver an earful of inspiration with a detour in the form of music.

Give this a try:

  1. Figure out what year your target consumer would have been 18.

  2. Search top songs for that year.

  3. Play the medley of songs from that year for the resource group.

  4. Ask for ideas based on the music they heard.

For example:

If your target consumer is Jennifer, a 36 year-old mom, she would have been 18 in 1999.
